Biography

Eric McCusker and Jake Mason are Melbourne based songwriter/musician/producers, both signed to Origin/Albert Music Publishing.

Between them they have worked with a veritable “Who’s Who” of Australian singers and bands including, Richard Clapton, Mark Seymour, Ross Wilson, Tania Doko, Stevie Wright, Mondo Rock, Cookin’ On 3 Burners, Hugh Jackman, Renee Geyer and more, and have had their songs covered by Paul Rodgers, John Farnham, Rick Springfield and Lucy Durack, among others.

They bring a highly complementary set of skills and talents to the task of writing and producing tracks. Jake plays a range of keyboards and saxophones, his Hammond playing fuelled the local and international success of Cookin’ on 3 Burners and he is an expert engineer and producer. Eric plays guitars and bass, sings backing vocals and writes most of the lyrics. He’s been a key member over 3 decades of Oz Rock legends Mondo Rock and wrote many of their hits including “Come Said the Boy” and “State of the Heart”.

In the 5 years they have been collaborating, McCusker & Mason have written over 30 songs together, which have been featured on 2 sampler CDs, 2010’s “Autumn/Winter” and this year’s “2 Sides of McCusker & Mason”. The songs cover a variety of styles. In the main, they are organic sounding, often with retro, soul, jazz and reggae influences, but also venturing into sophisticated pop. Featured lead vocalists on the 2 CDs include Kate Ceberano, Paulini, Carl Riseley, Jason Heerah, Ross Hannaford and Bobby Flynn.
